On April 25th, the whole school community attended the fabulous Melland High School Celebration of Culture and Diversity Day. The morning was a great success with an amazing turnout from students, parents, carers and families. The colourfully decorated theatre was filled with a wide range of interactive stalls and games including face painting, henna hands , world reading resources and arts and crafts. Lots of the school wore traditional clothes which reflect the many and varied cultures and heritages we include. Students performed African drumming to a very participative crowd, and we had a huge buffet table filled with delicious food and drink that had been prepared and donated by families. The atmosphere was one of belonging, respect and enjoyment of our diverse school population as well as huge amounts of fun.
This was followed in the afternoon by a whole school assembly in the Theatre where we looked again at the importance of celebrating Culture and Diversity. Students from all key stages gave live performances of music and dance; the school choir treated the audience to 4 fantastic songs, and we finished with a traditional clothing parade where students wore their outfits with pride.
What a wonderful day! Melland High School relishes these opportunities to highlight the whole school ethos of belonging as well as the chance to promote, respect and value diversity.
