This project has taken inspiration from Frederick Douglass and connected freedom with the idiom ‘to be as free as a bird’.
The students have taken part in the project and individually created birds using a range of media.

Students have been writing or drawing illustrations about their favourite books.

Students decorated, cut out and constructed a bird which is a unique representation of them.
Up to 10,000 birds will be made and installed in a beautiful display at Manchester Central Library celebrating the theme, ‘reading makes us free’.
